John Brown Childs

Professor, Sociology

John Brown Childs is Professor of Sociology and author of Transcommunality: From the Politics of Conversion to the Ethics of Respect, (Temple Univ. Press), a book about peacemaking and cooperation in the midst of diversity and group conflict. He is editor of Hurricane Katrina: Response and Reponsibilities (New Pacific Press) released in 2006. Among his other writings are: Leadership, Conflict, and Cooperation in Afro-American Social Thought, (Temple), and the edited work, Global Visions: Beyond the New World Order (South End Press), with J. Brecher and Jill Cutler. Professor Childs was awarded the Fulbright “Thomas Jefferson Chair of Distinguished Teaching” at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands in 1997. He has addressed a session of the United Nations Conference on Small Arms Violence in New York.
